1. gambling act 2005

The Gambling Act 2005 contains a new system to regulate the provision of all gambling in the UK.

This does not cover the National Lottery (regulated by the National Lottery Commission) or spread betting (regulated by the Financial Services Authority).

It has three clear objectives:

  • Keeping gambling crime free
  • Making sure that gambling is fair and open
  • Protecting children and vulnerable adults

The new Gambling Commission is responsible for achieving these objectives. We are responsible for the policy and ensuring that the necessary legislation is passed by Parliament.

The Act received royal assent on 7 April 2005, and we aim to implement it fully by September 2007.
