We publish the number of visits to our sponsored museums and galleries on a monthly basis. The figures are updated during the first week of each month, and are one month in arrears to allow time for the museums and galleries to collect the data.
The figures include all visits to these institutions except those by corporate hire customers, volunteers, suppliers and contractors.
Data collection methods vary between institutions, but all data is collected according to the guidelines issued in 2000.
The figures may be affected by temporary exhibitions, school holidays, closures for refurbishment and seasonal factors.
Where a museum or gallery comprises of more than one branch, the overall total for the museum is recorded first, followed by the breakdown for each branch.
Figures may be subject to revision. Any amendments will be published on this website at the earliest opportunity.
