Youth Olympic Games
Success for Britain at Singapore 2010
Britain’s young athletes have won 13 medals at the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. The team of 39 British athletes, aged between 14 and 18, won five golds, two silvers and six bronzes across eight sports including, Taekwondo, Rowing, Gymnastics and Athletics.
The 12 day competition played host to 3600 athletes from 204 countries. The Youth Olympic Games aims to inspire youth around the world to embrace, embody and express the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect.
“Our young athletes have done the country proud," said Jeremy Hunt. "Many of the competitors will have worked very hard to get there juggling school work and exams with training, making their success even more remarkable.
"I hope the experience of the Youth Olympics will spur these young athletes on to keep competing as adults and become Olympians in the future.”
