4,000 historic buildings to open for free this weekend
Heritage Opens Days 9-12 September.
Over the next four days, the doors of a number of historical and cultural buildings across England will be thrown open to the public as part of Heritage Open Days 2010.
Since 1994, the scheme has allowed visitors free access to fascinating places in England that are either normally closed to the public or charge an entrance fee.
A number of buildings, including follies, churches, factories, tunnels, windmills, private homes and government buildings, will open their doors, many offering visitors guided tours, concerts, re-enactments, trails and children's activities to get involved in.
The scheme depends on volunteers offering their time and services free of charge to make it a success. This celebration of architecture and culture is coordinated by English Heritage, and attracted over one million visitors last year.
