Second Government Art Collection exhibition opens

Cornelia Parker’s ‘Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain’ at the Whitechapel Gallery.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The second display of works from the Government Art Collection is now on display at the Whitechapel Gallery. For this display, the GAC invited leading British artist Cornelia Parker to select works of art reflecting her personal take on the Collection.

When making her selection for Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain, Parker arranged images of the works on her computer by hue. This led her to think about the political associations that colours have and the possibility of curating a political spectrum using art from the ‘somewhat charged diplomatic arena’ of the Government Art Collection.
