Gambling Act 2005 (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 2008

On 16th July the Minister responsible for gambling policy, Gerry Sutcliffe MP, announced in Parliament that DCMS is consulting on a proposal to double the limit on proceeds from individual society lotteries, from £2 million to £4 million, allowing an increase in the maximum top prize from £200,000 to £400,000.

Society lotteries are lottery draws run by charities, sports and leisure clubs to raise money for good causes. Subject to the results of the consultation, the Department intends to introduce an Order to parliament in the autumn, making the change.
