Olympic Funding - Case 99958

Question: Request for information regarding funding for 2012 Olympic participation. Case Number 99958

The financial support available to sport from the DCMS is primarily channeled through two DCMS sponsored bodies - Sport England and UK Sport. These are established by Royal Charter and enjoy a certain degree of independence from the Government. In the main, Sport England's priority is community sport, and UK Sport's the identification and development of elite talent. Both bodies award Exchequer and Lottery grants, and distribute funding provided by DCMS, in line with their own policies and priorities for the development of sport.

UK Sport targets its resources at those athletes capable of delivering medal winning performance at the highest level of competition. It also works with providers of athlete support services, such as sports science and medicine, to make sure that talented athletes receive the very best support.
