New plans to help live music thrive

With a pledge for £500,000 to set up new rehearsal spaces, the Government today underlined its commitment to support live music. , it also undertook to explore exemptions from licences for some small venues and to work with the Mayor of London to protect venues.

In March this year, I announced the overall public sector funding package for the Olympic and Paralympic Games totalling £9.325bn. Of this total, £6.090bn including tax and £500m of initial contingency was identified as public sector funding for the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA). The remainder of the package covered security, sports and other non-ODA costs, together with a prudent contingency for ODA and security costs. A fuller breakdown is included at Table 1.

DCMS sponsored Museums and Galleries in England to get £191 million capital investment over three years

Capital allocations to the museums and galleries sponsored by the DCMS are to rise by 147 per cent in cash terms to £191.4 million over the next three years, compared to the previous period, Culture Minister Margaret Hodge announced today.

The Government has today welcomed recommendations from UK Sport to modernise the UK’s approach to anti-doping, leading to the creation of an independent National Anti-Doping Organisation (NADO) with far reaching new powers. The body will be established in time to lead the fight against doping in sport in the build up to London 2012.
