Jane Cooper appointed new Director of Communications at Department for Culture Media and Sport

Jane Cooper, currently at the Department for Children, Schools and Families, has been appointed Director of Communications at the DCMS, Permanent Secretary Jonathan Stephens announced today.  She will take up her post early in the new year.

Ms Cooper, who has previously held senior communications positions in both the private and third sectors, said:

“This is a brilliant time to be joining the DCMS - a Department which touches the lives of so many people in this country in so many different ways.  With London 2012 less than four years away, an international spotlight is now on the UK.  So much of our face to the world will be influenced by this department’s interest in culture media and sport.  I’m really looking forward to joining the team and helping to promote the very best of what this country has to offer.”

DCMS Permanent Secretary Jonathan Stephens added:

“I am delighted to welcome Jane to DCMS.  Her experience in a range of different sectors, and the breadth of skills she has developed , will further strengthen our capacity to communicate the work of this department to the public and our stakeholders as we face unprecedented opportunities and challenges in the years to come.”

Since January 2008, Jane Cooper has been leading communications in DCSF as interim Director of Communications.  She moved to DCSF from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, where she was in charge of strategic communications for the Enforcement and Compliance business.  Prior to joining central government, Jane’s senior roles included being Director of Westminster Strategy, a government and media relations consultancy; Head of Communications for law firm, Leigh Day and Co; and Head of Government relations for Amnesty International.
