Core Receiver Requirements (2nd Edition) and responses to the consultation

The Secretary of State and the BBC have now approved amendments to the Core Receiver Requirements (CRR).

The revisions reflect lessons learnt from the roll-out of the Digital Switchover Programme in Copeland and the preparations for switchover in Borders. The revisions specifically relate to:

Platform neutrality
The energy use of equipment offered under the Help Scheme and
Requirements for remote control handsets.

A consultation was undertaken from 1 September to 13 October 2008 on the proposed revisions. Seven responses were received, one of which was confidential. A summary of the six non classified responses is available below.

The revised Core Receiver Requirement will come into effect in November 2008 to enable them to be used to evaluate bids from equipment providers wishing to be considered as the Most Cost Effective Option for the Wales region. Wales will begin to switchover in August 2009.
