The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) is responsible for staging the Games. LOCOG is a private company.

Its responsibilities include contracting out services, selling tickets and recruiting volunteers, as well as arranging a series of test events in advance of the Games.

We are working with LOCOG and a number of other organisationsto make sure that the Games run smoothly and efficiently.

Security

The Home Office is responsible for making sure that the Games are safe and secure. For more information on security at the Games please visit the Home Office website.

Legislation

DCMS is responsible for coordinating necessary changes to the law, acting on behalf of the Government.

Acts of Parliament:

• The London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Act 2006 is the main Olympics and Paralympics legislation
• The Horserace Betting and Olympic Lottery Act 2004 provides for the Olympic lotteries
• The Olympic Symbol etc. (Protection) Act 1995 provides for special Olympic and Paralympic intellectual property rights

Legislation:

• The London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (Amendment) Bill seeks to amend the 2006 Act. The Bill was introduced in Parliament on 16 March and the Government is aiming to get Royal Assent by the end of 2011. It is a minor, technical Bill which seeks to address requirements that have arisen since the original Act came into force. The Bill includes provisions in three areas: advertising and street trading, ticket touting and traffic management. Further documentation relating to the Bill includes:
