A total of £3.5 million investment has been announced for centres of excellence in Abertay University, Dundee and Media City UK, Manchester as part of the Government’s commitment to maintaining the UK’s global reputation in the growing video games industry. [9 December 2009]
At the end of October business leaders from across the creative sector came together at the Government’s first Creativity and Business International Network (C&binet) event – a high level forum designed to foster international dialogue about the creative economy. Key topics under discussion were: access to finance for creative industries; new business models for online content; developing talent; and securing creative rights. The definition of the creative industries
The creative industries are those industries that are based on individual creativity, skill and talent. They are also those that have the potential to create wealth and jobs through developing intellectual property.

Responsibility across Government
DCMS has lead responsibility in Government for Architecture, the Arts & Antiques Markets, Crafts, Designer Fashion, Film & Video, Music, Performing Arts and Television & Radio.
We share responsibility with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) formally, Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) for Advertising, Computer & Video Games, Design and Publishing.
