Local authorities can support the arts regionally.

Local authorities play a central role in supporting the arts regionally through:

  • Direct funding of arts organisations and events
  • Provision and management of arts venues
  • Promotion of arts events
  • Arts advice and support services

Local authority funding of the arts is discretionary: they are able to support the arts but it is not a statutory requirement.
