dcms jerwood creative bursaries

Funded by DCMS and Arts Council England, and managed by Jerwood, this scheme offers talented arts graduates from less affluent backgrounds the opportunity to start a career in the arts.

The scheme makes careers more accessible by giving up to 40 recent graduates, who could otherwise not support themselves through an unpaid internship, the chance to take up full- and part-time posts with a wide range of arts and cultural organisations for up to 12 months. The scheme makes it easier for talented arts graduates to find jobs in a market where unpaid internships are common, and those from low income backgrounds are often at a disadvantage.

Placements are available across the country, with diverse organisations like the Manchester International Festival, Sage Gateshead, the Royal Shakespeare Company, Apples & Snakes and Punchdrunk all taking part. Graduates are in a variety of posts including production assistant, marketing assistant and assistant director, and the jobs have been specially designed to give new graduates the very best start to their careers.

The scheme will initially run for two years until March 2012. A decision on continuing the scheme will be taken following a full evaluation.

Full information about the scheme, including academic and financial eligibility criteria; the latest jobs on offer, and a full list of all the organisations hosting graduate placements, is on the Jerwood Charitable Foundation website.
