convergence think tank

James Purnell announced the creation of the Convergence Think Tank (CTT) in conjunction with the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform at the Royal Television Society Cambridge in September 2007.

The Convergence Think Tank (CTT) has been set up to examine the emerging issue of convergence and the possible impacts, challenges and opportunities that convergence may have on the communications industries and beyond; as well as how this may impact on future government policy.

Convergence can be defined as the merging of the individual communications industries (IT, broadcasting, telecommunications etc) into single converged market. The breaking down of the traditional barriers between technologies has the potential to dramatically alter the landscape of the relevant sectors. In practice convergence covers a wide range of issues, as well as most of the regulatory and legislative regimes that we currently have in place within the broadcasting and telecommunications sectors.

More detailed information can be found on the Convergence Think Tank website.
