It was set up to take forward the Ministerial commitment to maximise the take-up of reforms in the Licensing Act 2003 relating to the performance of live music, to monitor the impact of the Act on live music, and to promote live music performance. 

The forum included representatives from across the industry and non-commercial sectors, as well as local government and the hospitality industry. 

The forum met 13 times, the final meeting being held on 16 April 2007.

Live Music Forum - Findings and Recommendations

The Forum’s recommendations was published on 4 July 2007.  The Secretary of State published his reply to the Forum’s recommendations on 17 December 2007.

Live Music Forum Research

• On 17 December 2007, DCMS published the follow up survey of the live music scene in England and Wales
  
• On 26 September 2007 , DCMS published the following research report by Frontier Economics The feasibility of a live music economic impact study.
  
  
• In July 2007, DCMS contracted BMRB Social Research to conduct the 2007 Live Music Survey. The results were published on 17 December 2007.
  
• In 2006, DCMS and the LMF conducted additional live music research, focusing in greater detail on the experiences of smaller venues in dealing with the application process during the Act’s (Licensing Act 2003) transitional period (Feb-Nov 2005).
  
  
• In 2004, DCMS and the Forum published the first ever baseline study of the existing live music scene in England and Wales.
