What initiatives are currently underway for the Creative Industries?
Our work includes:
Raising awareness across Government of the issues and barriers affecting the performance of creative businesses. For example DCMS organised a national conference on access to finance which could be used as a model for a series of regional conferences.

DCMS is working in partnership with Trade Partners UK to enhance the export performance of the creative industries. This work is being taken forward by four industry sector groups: Creative Exports; Cultural Heritage & Tourism; Design Partners; and Performing Arts International Development who will consider and advise on issues and barriers affecting the export of goods and services
DCMS recently established a forum to assess ways at improving the interface between creative industries and higher education. This forum has identified three main areas of further work to take forward: skills, knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship
We have commissioned research in 1998 and 2001 to map the economic value and contribution of the UK's creative industries. We are currently considering when and how we should produce a third mapping document, starting with a bench-marking exercise to ensure consistency and robustness of the statistical research before commissioning further work.

We have developed an Intellectual Property Portal which provides a popular and regularly updated service to the general public, business and inventors.

We worked with the Design Council to produce a booklet and web-site on careers advice for young people aspiring to embark on a career in the creative industries.
