advisory council on libraries
Under the provisions of the 1964 Public Libraries and Museums Act, the Advisory Council on Libraries (ACL) provides advice to the Secretary of State "upon such matters connected with the provision of library facilities... as they think fit".
The ACL comprises senior librarians and non librarian professionals with relevant skills and an interest in public libraries. All appointments are made by the Secretary of State in accordance with Nolan Guidelines.
