community sport

Community clubs increase and widen participation in sport across the country.

The Community Club Development Programme (CCDP) is providing £100 million to sports National Governing Bodies (NGBs) to help community sports clubs increase participation and widen access.

1200 projects had been awarded funding for capital developments up to April 2007 and over 900 of these are completed.

Community Amateur Sports Club scheme (CASC)
Established in 2002 this offers tax relief to local amateur sports clubs to ensure that facilities for community sport remain available to everyone.

As at 31 March 2007, 4,267 clubs have benefited to the tune of around £18.5 million. The money saved has gone back into sport and helped clubs with everything from improved facilities to kit.

Benefits of the CASC scheme:

  • 80% mandatory rate relief
  • Gift Aid on donations
  • Exemption from some levels of Corporation Tax
  • Exemptions from tax on trading profits where turnover is less than £30,000
  • Rental income up to £20,000 exempt from tax

Charitable status

They will benefit from:

  • 80% rate relief; your local council can award discretionary relief on the remaining 20%
  • Tax exemption for fundraising income – trading and rental
  • Payroll giving
  • Gift Aid
  • Other tax relief for individual and corporate donors
