Department for Culture Media and Sport

1. initial stage

The process for filling all vacancies begins with the drafting of a role specification.

It is a requirement of the OCPA Code of Practice that people must be made aware of vacancies on our boards through a proportionate method of publicity.

We publicise all our posts on the Department's website and that of the Cabinet Office (www.publicappts-vacs.gov.uk) for a minimum period of three weeks.  It is also DCMS policy to advertise paid Chair posts and other high profile posts in the national press, specialist journals or other target publications.

Our application packs contain:

  • The role specification
  • Our application form
  • Our leaflet about DCMS bodies
  • OCPA leaflet on OCPA rules and complaints
  • Cabinet Office guidance for board members – insert link
  • Guidance on Conflicts of Interest

We specify a closing date for each appointments campaign and no new names may be added for consideration after this date.

In addition to advertising, we search for potentially suitable candidates and approach them to gauge their interest in being considered.  We also have a database of people who are interested in being considered for a public appointment and we carry out a search of this for potential names.  All candidates must submit an application by the closing date and go through the same process.
