The 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games are London’s chance to deliver a spectacular Games and create a lasting legacy. The delivery of the Games themselves is the task of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).
All of this is happening in the glare of constant Parliamentary and media scrutiny and to a fixed deadline with the support of the Olympic Board, which brings together the key partners – the Government, LOCOG, the Mayor of London and the British Olympic Association. Within Government, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport has created the Government Olympic Executive (GOE) to work with these partners.
The GOE acts as the strong and intelligent client within Government, overseeing the Government’s interest in all aspects of the staging of the Games. As the funder of last resort, Government must have the expertise to ask the right questions to deliver on its own commitments and to manage others on behalf of Government to keep to budget and schedule.
The Role
Reporting to the GOE’s Director, Staging, the Deputy Director will understand and support the venue management and construction programmes for staging the Games.
They will work with closely with the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and other public sector organisations, including the Olympic Delivery Agency (ODA), to deliver the ambitious venue programme for 2012, providing strategic advice and support where appropriate.
As part of the wider GOE Staging Team responsibilities, the post holder will help communicate and provide support for LOCOG's strategy on issues such as ticketing, merchandising and athlete visas.
He or she will also be responsible for leading a small team in order to perform this function, as well as have overarching responsibility for the team’s sports liaison work.
