Department for Culture Media and Sport
head of sports liaison
Head of Sports Liaison
Ref. LH4058
Salary: Up to £65,000 plus benefits
Location: Central London
Closing date: Monday 30th June at 4pm
The 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games are London’s chance to deliver a spectacular Games and create a lasting legacy. The delivery of the Games themselves is the task of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).
All of this is happening in the glare of constant Parliamentary and media scrutiny and to a fixed deadline with the support of the Olympic Board, which brings together the key partners – the Government, LOCOG, the Mayor of London and the British Olympic Association. Within Government, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport has created the Government Olympic Executive (GOE) to work with these partners.
The GOE acts as the strong and intelligent client within Government, overseeing the Government’s interest in all aspects of the staging of the Games. As the funder of last resort, Government must have the expertise to ask the right questions to deliver on its own commitments and to manage others on behalf of Government to keep to budget and schedule.
The Role
Reporting to the GOE’s Deputy Director, Staging Delivery, the Head of Sports Liaison will work to ensure that Government and the public sector, through the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), deliver their commitments and sports requirements to the international and national sporting federations in order to stage a truly spectacular Games in 2012.
The successful candidate will understand how sport works in a national and international context and is likely to have worked in sport administration.
He or she will also be confident in briefing Ministers and senior managers on sporting matters and forge an excellent working relationship with the sports team at LOCOG.
